We meet again dear readers!

I am going to ask you a very difficult question. Prepare yourself! I want you to answer with the first book which comes to mind.

If you need to grab a piece of paper and a pen to write it down fast, please grab one. I will wait. I don’t want you to think too hard about it as I said I want you to answer with the first thing that comes in your lovely literary brains.

What is your favourite book?

My answer: Persuasion by Jane Austen (Or more specifically the letter Captain Wentworth writes to Anne. That letter is my favourite piece of literature and my favourite literary letter!) If you want to read it, I wrote an entire post about it here.

This is one of those difficult questions which probably shouldn’t be asked. Yet when push comes to shove (exactly what I am doing, so try to stay on your feet) I find it surprising what our answers might be.

I would usually say my answer when thought about would definitely include Persuasion, but also might be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte or I Never Promised You a Rose Garden by Joanne Greenberg.

It is great to have more than one and for it to change as we continue to devour the literary delights we find for ourselves. I also love that at any given moment our answer might change. I wonder why that might be?

  2. I have read so many great YA novels this year that it’s really hard to narrow it down to one. I like the “off the top of your head” as usually that’s when inhibitions are down and it’s whatever first comes to mind. Didn’t work for me here; I over analyze WAY too much! However, Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds is my most current favourite read. Love that it’s told through poetry and the author’s craft of alluding to but not telling is marvelous. Definitely recommend this book! Books that change my perspective on a topic, or enlighten about events in the world tug at my heart strings.

    • Long Way Down sounds like a great read. I love that it uses poetry within it to help tell the story in a dynamic way. I will definitely look it up. Some of the best things about books are when they are able to change perspectives on topics and teach us more about the world around us.

  5. My favorite book is probally Eliza’s monsters. Its about a normal girl but her issues with online secrets and just normal issues come into her real life. She created a web comic which became so big that people started getting curious on who she really was. Then a boy entered her life and made it even harder on keeping her ideantity. I feel as if i relate to some of her issues but a little bit different,which is why i enjoy the book so much! I have an online life too and hiding ideantitys can get hard sometimes,from what i’ve seen.

  6. My 3 favourite books from the top of my head are: Untwine, Wonder, and Auggie + Me. Untwine is one of my favourite books because I can connect to it because my parents are also divorced. Wonder and Auggie + Me because they really got me into reading because I never wanted to put the books down. Although these books are almost 2 totally different genres, I still love them but for 2 totally different reasons. I TOTALLY recommend these 3 books for you if you haven’t read them yet!

    • I haven’t read any of them, but after your comment I think I just might pick them up! I think it is so important for us as readers to connect with the content in the book and I hope that Untwine was able to provide you with what you needed to read from it. I am a big advocate on how some books we are just meant to read. Untwine sounds like it was meant to be read by you! I also love how your favourite books span differing genres. Mine usually do too!

  7. My favourite book is Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. I don’t know why this is my favourite it is just the first book that popped into my mind. Then about a second later I thought of The Land Of Stories; Worlds Collide. Again I’m not sure why, but it might be just because of how the author described every thing. The third one that I thought of was Making Bombs For Hitler. It was just a really good book and i just finished it today.

    • I love how the books continued to jump into your mind, wanting to be considered your favourites. I think that is the best part of asking this question as the books seem to come to life within us, wanting to be remembered as special. The Land of Stories; Worlds Collide sounds amazing. When an author has the ability to describe things which really connect with a reader, it makes my literary heart happy!

  8. The kane chronicles is my favorite book right now is because it is sort
    of is like the percy jackson books because there is egiption mythology
    and egiption magic. it is almost like harry potter, that is why i like it.

    • Magic and mythology make for some of the best books! I definitely am looking into The Kane Chronicles since I have always had a love of Egyptian mythology. When I was around your age I wrote a paper about the embalming techniques used in Ancient Egypt.

  9. My favorite book is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I like this book because its really close to everyday things that happen to people (Starr/ main character). I also like it because at some parts it really serious and I just want to keep reading on and on just to find out what happens and how its going to affect later on in the book. The book is pretty much about racism and police violence and how her town is being “attacked” by the police and there are lots of protests to.

  11. The Hate U Give, this was an amazing book because it touched on a problem lots of societies have, that being racism. This book is one of my favourite books because it has no boundaries with the things it shows, for example there was a part where it touched on gangs and drugs, showing us how north america has created an oppressive society I think the exact quote was when the Stars dad was talking to her and he said “Star in this neighborhood we have people who need money thinking that they have to sell drugs to make money and you have people who are sadly addicted and think they need drugs to survive.” This really hit me hard because i was thinking, just wow the fact that they can just put something so blunt yet truthful is really awesome, I was really just thinking wow this author is not afraid to put in touchy or “inappropriate” things for book. Anyways I just really thought this was a really good book and anyone who is not against some rather poor language or swears in general so all in all this was a really good book and one that i always think of when people bring up the subject of books.

    • This is such a great review for this book! The statement made by Star’s dad via the author as you mentioned is blunt, but true. Those kind of statements within literature have the ability to reach the audience who really need to hear/read them. I also think it is important for authors to tackle the ‘touchy or “inappropriate”‘ subjects as sometimes they can have the widest reach with their audiences in great readers like you. I hope this book continues to speak to you as it does and I hope that perhaps through your interest in it and great review, you can pass it along to a new bunch of readers who need to learn from it.

  12. I read four my story books and the books are about the war. I like these books because i like reading books about the war. Also i just thought these books were interesting. something else i thought interesting was that they added picture of the war at the back of the book.

  13. my favorite book so for is a series it is the dog man books that are my really funny and the book will pass time really fast when you start reading. if you were wondering what kind of book it is it is a graphic novel and the graphic novels are my favorite books in thee world especially the dog man books.

    • I mentioned in another comment how I bought my first graphic novel last month called The Wendy Project (based off of Peter Pan) and have fallen in love with graphic novels. They are such a fascinating form of literary art and I am glad for another person who likes them as well! I too enjoy when a book can help pass the time with its amazing ability to capture our interest.

  14. I have read so many great books and i couldn’t choose but I just have narrowed it down to three, Taking Flight (dance book/ autobiography), Hour of The Bees and Untwine. Those were all really great and interesting books and those are the ones that I’ve chose. They are all very different from each other and I like that about each other because Taking Flight was a really great story and autobiography and I loved the emotion the writer put in it. Hour of The Bees was just a personal heart toucher for me because the characters were there with me as I read it and the visualisation was really clear. Last but not least Untwine was just really connectional to me because of home and the connection between my life and the book was so close that it stuck with me for one of my favorite book.

    • These sound like such great books. Your description of them is phenomenal and have captured my heart along with the reasons why you felt they would be considered your current favourites. I love when we are able to cross literary genre and love books for the ability an author has to draw us whether it is fiction or nonfiction, contemporary YA to fantasy.   15. My favourite book i have read this year has to be The Hate U Give. I enjoyed this book because it was really realistic and the author never made it like a “regular” book. I say this because it had a lot of words that you definitely would use in the real life. When I read it its kinda like listening to the news because its so realistic. It kinda put you into the shoes as if you were in the characters in the book, because it is so realistic.

    • Realism within fiction especially with a topic such as the one found in The Hate U Give is so important for the society in which we find ourselves.   16. my favourite book is Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier, it is my favourite book because i liked how that Raina ( one of the charecters) changes her mind about beliveing in ghosts, and how she changes her attitude about this boy she met at the arcaid, and how her little sister loves just hanging out with him. I love the conection with Raina and her little sister, and how they care so much about each other. I like how Rainas friends help her fix her sistwawayshones through her every day life.

  17. That’s a beautiful letter. I haven’t read Persuasion and will have to get round to it. But I loved Emma. My favourite novel of all time is quite short at 50k words. It’s ‘We Have Always Lived in the Castle,’ by Shirley Jackson. The characters are so deliciously mad, and it gets weirder as the book progresses. It’s said to be her masterpiece and I ahve to agree. Plus i just lkove old houses and the stories that go with them.
