His Sweet – Review

Goodreads Synopsis:

When Sheriff Yolanda Demetriou receives boxes of notebooks, she has no idea of the horrors that lie ahead. Will she be able to piece together the information and locate the house where childhood dreams become nightmares? Or will she be too late to save an abducted girl?

In this dark psychological thriller, Yolanda and her team embark on a hunt for a monster, following maddeningly sparse clues in a race to solve a heartless crime.

My Favourite Quotes:

“In reality, I’m just like Alice. I also followed a rabbit into a hole. But my hole is dark and cold, and there is no magic beings to guide me.”

“It was an opportunity to make up for what she perceived as her own failure and deep within, she knew that it wasn’t just about saving the girl, it was also about saving herself.”

“They say that love and hate are two sides of the same coin, and I guess they’re right. Deep down, I don’t want him gone, because then I’d be along. Without him I don’t have anybody.”

“He also said that even the best and most incredible people make mistakes on their journey, and this mistake meant that one day I would become something wonderful.”

“This will be the life I make for myself, the life I should have had. The one I deserved.”

My Thoughts:

If you are wondering if the author’s name sounds familiar to you dear readers, its because this is the second novel of hers I am reviewing! (You can read that review of Loner here!) And if you can’t tell by the exclamation mark(s), I really like her writing.

This story gripped me right from the first page and I loved how the reader is brought back and forth between the diary of a young girl and the Sheriff who is desperately trying to locate her.

I finished this book in one sitting and completely ignored the real world around me, it held me so tight within its clutches.

There is a clarity to the authors writing and an ability to make you hold your breath while you wait to find out what is going to happen next. I loved how integral location is to the story and what it meant to not only try to find someone with limited resources but even added governmental ones. It just highlights how difficult it is to find a missing person.

So, if you are looking for a great crime novel which encapsulates you from the very beginning this book is for you literary lovelies! But be warned: Make sure you have the time to read it cover to cover as you will not want to let it go once you start!

I heart His Sweet this much:
