Review Guidelines

** 2021 Review Update **

I am currently putting my reviews on pause (minus those I have already slotted for the remainder of the year) due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, I cannot focus on reading at this time and do not feel it would be fair to take further reviews if I cannot promise to be able to read them in a timely manner. Wishing you all the very best and as soon as I get over this pandemic induced reading slump I will open my reviews once again.

Sincerely,

Whitney (aka Honestly Austen)

General Info:

Currently, I am only accepting fiction in the following genres:

  • Romance/Historical Romance
  • Fantasy
  • Mystery/Suspense/Thriller
  • Contemporary
  • YA
  • Middle Grade

**Unfortunately, I am not accepting Non-Fiction. It is one genre I really struggle with trying to read.

For review inquiries, I can be reached through my contact page as well as by emailing: whitneytjs@honestlyausten.com.

I accept print, ARCS and e-books.

Tick, tock:

As I am so grateful for the opportunity to read your work, I will try to have a review out as soon as possible, but as life sometimes gets in the way, I appreciate having at least a month to read and review your work. If a specific date is required to have the review done by, please notify me at the beginning of our correspondence and I will do all that I can to get it out by the date needed.

My opinion is just that, mine:

I am going to be as honest as I can when I review a novel which might mean the review might not always be favourable. I strive to always be fair to both the authors who trust their work to me as well as my readers and myself. As my blog contains my personal literary opinions I reserve the right to refuse to review a book.

In the post you will/might see:

The Key to my rating madness:

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ – I couldn’t put it down and if forced I was very sulky as well as possibly mean until I could start reading it again.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ – I definitely enjoyed the book and would love to match it to readers I know would be interested in it.

♥ ♥ ♥ – It was a good book, but it was lacking in something whether it be characterization, plot, etc.

♥ ♥ – It was a fine book, but I had to force myself to its conclusion.

♥ – It was definitely not my cup-of-tea and I probably didn’t finish it.

(I also give .5 ratings)
