Four days of fun!

I have always wanted to be one of those Aunt’s where the nieces and nephews could be dropped off for a weekend of fun. I am proud to say that dream has come true since I have been lucky enough to be housed [while I write my novel(s)] by my sister and her husband. I get to be a part of the lives of my nieces, Lux and Poppy, as well as be the provider of care for when my sister and brother-in-law take trips for their jobs.

So this week I find myself spending the majority of my time taking care of my lovely nieces. Since they out number me two-to-one, I find myself too exhausted to read after putting them to bed. Luckily enough they both love books and I get to read them a bunch before they fall asleep which still gives me a sense of literary fulfillment.

Our favourite reads include, but are not limited to:

Little People Big Dreams

My sister is all about collecting this whole set and I of course have a personal copy of the maven of mystery herself: Agatha Christie! They are the perfect reads for a great introduction to the lives of these amazingly empowering women.

That’s Not My…

My youngest nieces absolutely loves these texture based books. She will be trying so hard to keep her eyes open and her cute fingers up long enough to find out whichever animal is actually hers. My personal favourite is That’s Not My Unicorn.

Bloom: A Story of Fashion Designer Elsa Schiaparelli

As my sister is a fashion blogger kaitbos.com, I can see that this book was a buy close to her heart. This book is a recent addition to their collection and it is absolutely stunning. Being a biography of Elsa Schiaparelli’s life it is a great tie in with the strong women of Little People Big Dreams.

Last, but not least we have a Look and Find Paw Patrol

Paw Patrol is big in a lot of households and my eldest niece still loves it very much, but it is become a new love for my youngest niece who calls Rubble: Rubba! It is so cute and it makes me smile every time I hear her say it.

These are just a few of the amazing books that line the three shelves and fill the two baskets in their room. As an avid reader myself, I whole heartedly enjoy seeing their love of books continue to bloom.

What are some of your favourite childhood stories or those loved by the little ones in your lives?

I shall leave you here dear readers as I am exhausted and I wish you a very happy Wednesday!

Honestly Austen

Postscript: Morris the Moose was definitely a favourite of mine!

  1. Fun aunties are the best!! I love the look of the Little People Big Dreams. I want to get my daughter the Ada Lovelace one (as I am a big fan of her father’s poetry) and I think my daughter will love her!

  2. I wish to be the cool, fun aunt someday as well! For I have one of my own. For now though, I love taking care of my younger cousins when they come over. I love how your nieces are into books at such a young age. I definitely remember having a ton of children’s book in our old house. My favorite was a chunky old copy of Grimm’s fairytales.

    • We had a chunky old copy of Grimm’s fairytales in my Grandma’s house which we read every time we came to stay the night. It is so nice to be close to your cousins like that, I used to be closer with mine when we were much younger, but now we all live so far from one another. I too am so happy to see how much my nieces love reading. It is definitely something I indulge them with to the point of spoiling. (If you can be spoiled with too many books that is!)
